Creativity flourishes in different ways for everyone, and these artists have found their inspiration in food. Fascinating, detailed, visionary are some of the words that describe these artists and their gastronomic artworks.

Julia Bernardelli is an Italian artist whose works became an internet sensation through Instagram. Her works are the result of a spur of inspiration, an inspiration that came from spilling coffee. She doesn’t plan the works ahead and rather allows her imagination to lead the way. For the same reason, she uses leaves or fruit peels as paintbrushes. Although she mostly uses coffee as paint, she has also worked with syrups, flour, and fruits. Her paintings range from recreating famous artworks to portraits to scenes from movies or books.

Maciek Jasik

Maciek Jasik is a Polish artist and photographer whose desire is to reveal the role that human society plays in nature. In his work, The Secret Lives, he exhibited a series of photographs where fruits were the main and only object. A colorful smoke comes out from the middle of these fruits, filling the space. Through this work, he wanted to show how our familiarity with fruits and vegetables is broken when we forget about their origins. It’s easy to find almost any type of fruit or vegetable in our supermarkets even though the root of their origin is another country and they grow in another type of weather. This is an analogy to nature and how we can take for granted the many things that it provides for our survival.
Apart from this, he also likes to experiment with the aesthetics of his works and often uses a monochromatic background with altered foods in the foreground, creating intriguing but visually pleasing photographs.
